RECIPE 1 C real butter (no substitutions!) 1 C sugar 1 egg 1 1/2 t almond extract 3 C flour 1 1/2 t baking powder 1/2 t salt
Cream butter & sugar, add in wet ingredients, followed by dry. Cover and chill. Roll out on floured surface. Bake @ 350 degrees for 7-9 minutes. (If you do not have a Silpat, they are a great investment.) Let cookies cool before removing from baking sheet.
Honestly, these are so soft, buttery, and delicious they do not need frosting. I simply sprinkle with sugar crystals prior to baking.
No matter how many times you've watched them, there are just some movies that tug, in my case violently rip, at your heartstrings.
"A League of Their Own"
While the players are sitting in the locker room prior to a game, a postman brings a letter from the war department. Each player sits nervously wondering if it is their husband that has been killed, as Tom Hanks walks past each of them one by one to hand it to the correct woman. He finally stops in front of Betty, hands her the letter, and simply says, "I'm sorry Betty." And then Betty just loses it crying, "GEORGE!" as her teammates console her. GAH!
"LOTR: Return of the King"
This is a newly discovered crying movie for me. During the coronation scene, after Aragorn is crowned and reunited with Arwen, he approached the hobbits. The hobbits bow to the new king, but Aragorn quickly says, "MY FRIENDS, YOU BOW TO NO ONE." And the entire coronation crowd bows to the brave little hobbits. GAH!
One of my favorite movies, but I'm ruined after watching it so I cannot watch it unless I have nothing else to do that day. Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie holds a special place in my heart as you may know, so when Sylvia Llewelyn Davies enters "NEVERLAND" it's an amazingly beautiful moment. GAH! GAH! GAH!
"Toy Story 3"
Even the hardest of hearts went weak as we witnessed our favorite toys join hands while staring into the fiery pit that would lead to their destruction. But, thanks to THE CLAW they survived. Fast forward to Andy giving away his childhood toys, toys we have all come to know and love, to the adorable Bonnie. As he held up each toy, described their greatest qualities, and handed them one by one to their new owner...GAH!
Dear Tdap, Almost two weeks later and my shoulder/upper arm STILL hurt. And of course, thanks for WebMD (the only educational site that makes a minor cold into a deathly disease), I fear I have brachial neuritis. I love jumping to conclusions.
In the quaint seaside town of Carpentaria is a humble little bookshop. In this bookshop you will find a small corner of secondhand children's book. if you search hard enough you will stumble upon some great finds! While browsing, I happened upon an adorable picture book about a little girl that wants to fly and tries everything she can in order to do so. Well, this book also provided page after page of cut-outs for cards/scrapping. I apologize to the author/artist for cutting up the book, but her art is being shared!
After many years of wanting to go to a taping of the ELLEN show, I finally just gave in and requested tickets and by golly...I GOT FOUR TICKETS! I am so glad I was able to find three great people to go with and we had a fun day full of laughing and dancing! Heidi Jo was willing to take a break from Mexico (and as an added bonus, she came up a couple days early and we got to spend some time together!), and my two friends from G7, Jason & Jonathan joined in on the fun too. We had amazing aisle seats and could be spotted randomly throughout the show.
Jonathan is in green. Heidi is next to him. Jason is in black. I am next to him (in purple). (guys are easier to spot in the crowd, for some odd reason!)
Just dancing with Ellen (spot me & Heidi)
Best shot! (Heidi & Jonathan)
The guests were Steve Harvey, Rachel Maddow, Matt Kemp, and musical guest Robyn. We walked away with Robyn's new CD, a Groupon giftcard, and some great memories!
Southern California Avocado Festival. Saw an advertisement on Thursday. Invited via text Friday. Attended Saturday.
There were tons of fun things look at, people to watch, sunshine and sand to enjoy, and avocado-y food to try. I ate the BLT with Guacamole, Claire tried the BBQ beef with Guacamole, and Justine the taquitos...with Guacamole, of course! After walking down the shore line in Carpenteria and exploring the tide pools, we dared to try the famous avocado ice cream. It was interesting, but I still prefer a good 'ol strawberry cone.
I get to spend a lot of time with Abby. I'm not complaining.
"Abby, what do you want for breakfast?" "Yummies." "What kind of yummies? Do you want cereal?" "No." "Pancakes?" "No." "Yogurt?" "No." "Waffles?" "No. Yummies." "What kind of yummies?" "Blue-buh-buh-buh-berry." "Blueberry pancakes?" "YEAH!" Abby has a single freckle on her right cheek. If you're lucky you can SNATCH it up. When you hand it back to her she will quickly put it on her left cheek. Then, after realizing her mistake, she will pick it up delicately and return it to its proper home on her right cheek.
When someone leaves (mama/papa leaving for work, Abby leaving for the day, etc.) Abby likes to leave "parting thought" or things she wants you to think about when she is away from you.
"What should mama think about while she's at work?" "Uh....papa!"
"What should Uncle Brett think about when we hang up the phone?" "Uh....babies!" (Brett & Hill expecting next month)
"What should Gramma think about?" "Uh...Tink!"
Well, there has been a running theme with what Auntie Ashley should "think about". (My guess is there has been some brainwashing occurring.)
Hi, my name is Merlot. I was rescued by a kind lady that pulled over near an intersection. I was only three weeks old when I started my 3 week stay with a nice family. My hobbies include eating, snuggling, eating, whining, eating, sucking human necks, eating, sleeping, and eating. I will eat everything and will try to eat anything I can get close enough to snatch up! (formula, wet food, yogurt, cheerios, bread, waffles, syrup, cheese-its, pork). Today, I was picked up my my new family! I hear they have a dog, which means I'll have a new friend! I am VERY excited to be joining a great family!
Here are a few pictures that were taken during my stay with my first family.
Napping with Hernia, my manatee.
I don't take up much room. ...THREE WEEKS LATER... My friend, Abby. I love kisses!Abby calls me "my meow-meow"
I have fun stripes under this black fur.
Thanks for loving me! Love, Merlot
P.s. I have a new name! You may now call me Heddo!
Saturday was "Mormon Day" at Six Flags Magic Mountain! A total of 12 headed out for a fun day at the park. The weather was great, the company and conversations were entertaining and it was simply an all around GOOD DAY. It was my first "real" experience with big coasters and I LOVED IT! We waited 1.5 hours for X2 and it was SO WORTH IT! I was terrified in the best way (strange idea, I know). It was a completely different atmosphere in comparison to Disneyland, but is it really fair to compare the two?
