I walked to the kitchen barefoot
like every night for the past however many years.
I pulled a glass from the cabinet
like every night for the past however many years.
I pressed the glass against the water dispenser
like every night for the past however many years.

This is where something clicked.
I stared at the glass as it filled with pure, clean water
And thought of how GRATEFUL I am for this water.
This water is safe, clean, cold, readily available.
This is something that most do not have.

Something so simple that we don't give a second thought about.

And I snapped back to life just in time to not have my cup spill over.

pikliz (noun): amazingly addictive dish that causes body temperature and salivary glands to escalate.

"Every Haitian home has a jar of pikliz on hand. Cabbage, carrots, peppers and other vegetables are soaked in vinegar to make a relish similar to American chow-chow or Italian giardiniera. The crunchy salad is served as a side dish at Haitian meals. Flavored vinegar from pikliz is often used in marinades or to give dishes a spicy-sour punch." (some random internet sight)

I was first introduced to pikliz my sophomore year of college when I lived with Edna, Princesse, and Maudeline. I was introduced to MANY new foods that as a result of their amazing traditional Haitian dishes. My very first experience with pikliz was entertaining. Every person in the room (composed of mainly those from other cultures) had their eyes on me as I took a bite. The taste was nothing I had ever experienced (how could anything have so much flavor!), but as soon as it hit my throat I was hit by the urge to cough...and cough...and cough. Since then, I've been hooked and NOW...THE HOTTER THE BETTER!

[free back adjustments]

Pops & Mum sat through a boring "dog & pony" presentation and received six tickets for Knott's Berry Farm. So, the whole family (minus Brett, Hill, and Pat-okay NOT the whole family), headed out on MLK day. It was a beautiful 80 degree day and was the park was almost empty! No lines! There was no lack of volunteers to watch Abby while the others rode the rides though.

Abby's favorite ride.

Boomerang. (aka free back adjustment)

Drift cars?

I promised Pops this picture would not appear on FB,
but I didn't make any promises about my blog!

[life is good]

la vida es buena
la vie est bonne

once upon a time...
Lauren & I lived together
every day we shared stories of triumph,
stories of woe,
stories of frustration,
stories of trivial matters,
stories of the mundane,
(these became phone convos when we were separated)
but no matter what was happening in our lives,
all of our conversations ended with
We learned to find the good things among the bad.

It really is an effective way of thinking.
Try it. You'll like it.

[balancing act]

ever read Dr. Suess' Oh! The Places You'll Go? You should. It's a childrens' book commonly used for special occasions. Britt gave me the PARTY edition as a graduation gift. I read it often. It describes the ups & downs, rights & lefts of life. Here are some excerpts (actually, the beginning and end).

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.
You'll get mixed up of course,
as you already know.
You'll get mixed up
with many stray birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life's
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with you left.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will indeed!

Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So... get on your way!

wednesday: Vanna. Hillary. Amber. Maria. And I all met up in Newport Beach for a girls' day. We ate a delicious lunch at BJs, walked around the little shops, along the coast and the pier, and ended with Sprinkles Cupcakes. It was a BEAUTIFUL day and I was ONE LUCKY GAL having best friends from all points in my life all together.

[goodmorning starshine]

the earth says 'hello'
how can you wake up in a bad mood with this little girl in your face?

[you're a firework]

I either catch on to things BEFORE it becomes popular (example The Script) or WAY after they have been popular (example Firework by Katy Perry). Recently found Firework and decided I really like it. Two other good songs added. VERY excited about The Scripts new album coming out in a couple weeks.

[something new]

The last couple weeks:
Graduated. Moved back home. Celebrated Christmas. Celebrated the New Year. Starting an internship at Rio Vista Elementary. Most likely going back to work at Islands. Officially joined Glendale 7th Singles Ward. Made a few new friends. Kept in contact with old ones. Enjoying family time. Wondering what the future holds.
